About The James Brand

The James Brand makes knives and tools for people who live adventurously - for people like them. For those who aren’t content consuming other people’s stories, and who don’t wait around for other people to fix things. They are with you, from the pocket to the hand, and back again.

A Twist of the Wrist

The Bolen is The James Brand's first twist-retractable pen. Its two-handed twist action ensures it will never deploy by accident on your desk or, worse, in your pocket. Featuring a precision-machined 6al-4v titanium barrel with a thinner, more ergonomic diameter, along with a machined 6al-4v titanium pocket clip, the Bolen complements any desktop or pocket. Twist pens are revered for their smooth and silent operation (compared to the familiar “click” of click pens), offering a more refined way to interact with your daily writing instrument. The Bolen’s lightweight durability and satisfying twist action make it hard to put down. It comes with a black Parker-style G2 ink refill for an ultra-smooth writing experience. This also means you can easily customise your Bolen, as these refills are widely available in a variety of ink colours and line sizes.

A Twist of the Wrist.
Twist pens are great for daily carry, as they are very quiet (quieter than a standard click-pen) and have a bit more of a refined feel in the mechanism. Not having an “out-the-top” actuator can help prevent the leaks that can occur with a standard click-pen when they are accidentally depressed, which can be standard fare if you are often fishing around in your pockets. The twist mechanism also provides for a more minimal aesthetic with less “stuff” sticking out of your jeans.

Choose Your Poison.
The Bolen uses widely available Parker-style G2 ink cartridges; these are the same cartridges that TJB use in their Burwell pen. This is one of the world’s most popular refills, meaning you can find them nearly anywhere, in a variety of nibs, sizes and colors. The Bolen ships with a oil-based 7mm medium black ballpoint refill; they keep these refills in stock at TJB.com.

Details Matter.
The James Brand are obsessed with details here at TJB, and the Bolen didn’t escape their attention in this regard. From the bead-blasted titanium finish, to the paint-filled electric moss degree mark on the top, to the seamless design and machined texture, they came in close and worked through all of the little things; it’s the culmination of the little things that matter in the end.
